What Even is a timer cover?
Think of the timer cover as your bike’s badass faceplate, right on the nose cone of the cam cover. Originally called 'points covers,' they protected the points and condenser before Harley-Davidson moved to electronic ignition. Over time, they became 'timer covers' to shield the cam sensor, but now they’re mostly decorative. Why not make it personal? These covers have been iconic since the 1970 Shovelhead, making their mark and bringing style to Harley engines for decades.
Fitment Guide
Harley-Davidson Timer Cover Fitment by Model and Year Our custom timer covers fit a variety of Harley-Davidson models across different years. For Twin Cam models (’99-’17 Dyna, ’99-’18 Softail, and Touring from ’99-’15), the 5-hole pattern is standard. This pattern accommodates Harley’s transition to electronic ignition, with the timer cover protecting the cam sensor. For Evolution engines on models from the late '80s through the ’90s and Sportster models—dating back to the ironhead engines—2-hole patterns are typical. Pre-1979 Shovelheads and earlier models used magneto ignitions, while post-’79 setups incorporated points and condenser ignitions under the “points cover,” which later evolved into the timer cover as Harley shifted to electronic systems.
